Classroom Update

Wow, what a week! We spent most of our time finishing things up. With all of the snow days adding up, we had a lot to catch up on! This week we worked on our end of unit writing assessment and finished up our science engineering task.  Please note that your child received a N/A in writing for Trimester I due to the fact that I didn't have enough time to give and score their writing assessment before the end of the trimester. I didn't get to take as many pictures as I'd like to either....

New Sharing Topic

In the month of December we will have a specific topic for morning meeting shares… special family traditions. Please help your child to bring items that have to do with special family traditions you celebrate. Traditions could be vacations, birthday rituals, Christmas celebrations etc.

International Festival

What an awesome time we had at the International Festival on Friday! This field trip helped to bring awareness to our students that there are many different cultures in our world. There were some great hands on games, crafts and foods to sample.  Thank you to all of the parents and family members who chaperoned on this trip!

Social Studies Mini Unit

Cultures Around the World

The 1-2 and 2-3 classes will be researching different cultures around the world. Students will take part in small nonfiction book clubs where they will learn to navigate nonfiction texts using  text features. We will also begin using the computers in our classroom to research, and learn to take notes.  As a way to share our learning, we will be creating our own international market. Students will represent the culture they researched by sharing important facts and by selling goods from that region. We will open the market to the school and Waterville and Belvidere community!

Big Buddies

This week we met with our Big Buddies from Ms. Vargo's 4-5 class. We began making  GIANT snowflakes together... we will use them to decorate our classroom in the month of December.  They are so beautiful I can't wait to finish and hang them up!
