Spring Vacation

Earth Day

Vermont Symphony Orchestra

On Wednesday the V.S.O. came to W.E.S. for a fabulous performance! We toured the world and learned about the different percussion instruments played through time. The kids loved the performance!

Readers' Workshop
In reading we have been working hard to incorporate all of our comprehension skills into some excellent book retells and summaries. Over the week we used our ice-cream scoop model to identify the components of a detailed retell. Students picked their favorite fiction book to retell and practiced with their same book partner. On April 5, we will celebrate with an ice-cream party! Students will retell their books to a "different book" partner. I am sending out donation requests, please check you child's folder this week!

Writers' Workshop
In writing we finished publishing our final drafts! The first and second graders are becoming experts at using computers! This week they demonstrated their knowledge of logging on to the computers, navigating to our class website, logging into their email accounts and using google docs to type out their final drafts! We also worked on inserting pictures from google images.

Technology Unit
The first and second graders are really becoming savvy with their technology skills. We have had a lot of catching up to do this year, but we have made lots of progress in a short amount of time! Ms. Preston our technology expert has worked very hard to give each child access to a computer and has provided all of our students with google accounts. Students are learning some basic typing skills through typing.com. We have learned about the "home row" and how to use the space bar. The kids LOVED learning about the keyboard and how to type!

PAWS Rules Revisited
As a class we have revisited our PAWS rules. We have focused on respecting ourselves, others and our environment. Recently, I have noticed a shift in the way students are treating each other, their teachers and our classroom.  Together we brainstormed ways to be kind and show that we care. We created a classroom heart filled with our ideas, and have worked hard to change the way we treat others. I have already noticed a difference here at school! I am really proud of these kiddos!
