The Week of April 26

**Please send a water bottle and extra masks with your student each day**

Checking in on Lizzy

Students are so kind and careful when taking care of Lizzy. They check her water each day, make sure the temperature in her enclosure is warm enough, and have REALLY enjoyed feeding her! Students work in partnerships to meet her daily needs. Students are learning to take turns, communicate clearly with others, and what it means to have a classroom job/responsibility.

Social/Emotional Learning
The first and second graders have learned many things this year. We are still developing many social and emotional skills.  Now that the newest COVID recommendations have been published, students can work in small groups or partnerships to play games. We are working on: taking turns, following the rules of the game, communicating with clarity and precision, and managing our impulsivity. Students are learning to win and lose a game. I model and teach these skills each day.

Morning Recess

We have been spending time outside each morning! This starts our day with exercise and fresh air. I model and teach social and emotional skills each day through group games. Please be sure to pack a jacket for chilly spring mornings!

Spring Craftivity

This week, we made fun pom pom caterpillars during choice time! Students enjoyed making their own unique caterpillar and were proud to see their work hanging in the hall!

Readers' Workshop
This week, we worked on teaching about our nonfiction books like an expert! Students shared their books with others and taught about their favorite pages. We also worked on reading our nonfiction books with the right tone and level of expression. On Friday, we used our flashlights during independent reading! We had lots of fun on Flashlight Friday.
