First Day of Spring...we can't wait!!!

Leprechaun Trap Building
This week we planned, built and tried out our traps in hopes to catch Jolly the leprechaun! Students worked on using their plan to build their traps, and eagerly shared how their traps work with their friends and teachers. Thank you to all the families who sent in the wonderful recycled materials and much, much more!!

Readers' Workshop

In reading, students worked with their "same book partners" to keep track of their books. In our reading groups, students picked books from a series to read. Students were given a special EMERGENCY TOOLKIT to help them keep track of their books and what has happened. Students invented their own strategies and shared them with the class! We just finished a great read aloud called Minnie and Moo, which we used to practice all of these skills! Students should have their tool kits in their reading bags each night, so be sure to check them out!

Writers' Workshop
In writing, we began using google docs! Students were really excited and loved learning to insert google images into their documents. We used these images to elaborate further on our topics. We will work on revising and editing our pieces before publishing them using google docs next week.

Math
The first graders are working hard to use a number-line! We have been playing some really fun games in class to help us learn to count by 1s, 5s and 10s on the number-line, and have  been using these skills to add double digit numbers. We have also been using our computers to access our Seesaw accounts. The first graders have LOVED working on the computers  and sharing their thinking! I hope to share their on-line journals with you at parent/teacher conferences!
