Smithsonian National Zoo Virtual Field Trip
The Smithsonian National Zoo has six live cameras that let you see what is happening in different habitats across the zoo! Here is your job as you take this virtual field trip:
Grades PreK-2: Play this “I Spy” game and see if you can find all of the pictures! When you’re finished, cut and sort the pictures into groups (i.e. food, water, shelter, enrichment or create your own groups).
Grades 3rd-6th: Check out at least two different live cams. Notice the different things you see in the habitats (i.e. the hay or the paintbrushes in the elephants’ habitat). Think about the purpose of the items you see, asking yourself: “What does each part do or provide for the animals?” and “How is each part helpful to the animals?” Use this sheet to record your thinking or take notes on your own.
BONUS: If you have extra time, play Zoo Bingo!
